A 12-BORE 'B GRADE' SIDELEVER SIDELOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 20977,
27in. replacement nitro barrels (circa 1976), rib engraved '2' at the breech end and with 'BARRELS MADE FOR HOLLAND & HOLLAND GUN NO. 20977', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. true cyl. and 1/4 choke, action bridge fractured, top-tang gold-inlaid '2', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, border and acanthus scroll engraving, the underside with 'PATENT EJECTOR', brushed bright finish, 14 5/8in. figured replacement stock, fore-end with Deeley & Edge patent release catch, weight 6lb. 11oz.

Provenance: The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed on the 23rd September 1903 as a '12-bore No.2 hammerless ejector with 31in. damascus barrels' for a Mr G.H. Caton Haigh, to 'Pair with Gun No. 20976'.

George Henry Caton Haigh (1860 – 11 February 1941) FZS, MBOU, DL, was a world authority on Himalayan flowering trees and exotic plants. He was also a famous ornithologist and his manuscript collection is lodged in The Natural History Museum.
